Statistics
Daily Warm-Ups
At the start of class, there will be a warm-up posted for you to do. You will be given approximately five minutes to finish. Some days it will be a journal prompt for you to respond to, other days it will be three to four problems for you to attempt. All students are expected to attempt the warm-up in their packet.
Practice
You will have an assignment most days. You may have time in class to work on that day’s assignment; however, any work not completed in class will be due the next class day. You are responsible to talk to me at an appropriate time about any work missed on days you are absent.
Activities
During the course, you will be asked to work on activities and explorations of statistical concepts. You are expected to give all activities or explorations you best honest attempt. It does not matter if you arrive at the right answer, but rather that you have taken the time to think about and make conclusions from your observations.
Projects
Each quarter, you will have a project that will help you see the ties between statistics, other content disciplines and the real world. You will be expected to work on these projects outside of class and manage your time to meet the intermediate checkpoints.
Assessments
Over the course of each semester, there will be five quizzes, and a final. You will be allowed to use a testing reference guide like the class reference and a small notecard. If you are unhappy with your score on any unit quiz, you may retake the unit quiz, at my sole discretion, completing any work requested prior to the retake. Retakes are not guaranteed.
Technology
Throughout the course, we will spend time in class using technology to assist us in calculation results, creating statistical displays of data, and exploring live data. When we are using technology, it is expected that you use the technology, whether it is calculators, computers, or manipulatives, in the manner directed.
Latework and Reassessment
Timely submission of assignments and/or reassessments is essential for student learning and success. Students are expected to submit their work by the due date. However, understanding that unforeseen circumstances may arise, a grading period of no more than one week beyond the due date is allowed for late submissions with no penalty to the grade. Reassessment should be scheduled within one week of the original assessment date. In cases of extended absences due to illness, family emergencies, or other significant circumstances, students or parents should contact the teacher, counselor, or principal as soon as possible to discuss alternative arrangements and extended deadlines.
